| Fire destroys factory, Hatteberg sells out to Roddis, who changes the company name to Roddis Veneer Company. |

| The factory continued to prosper, employing 55 people and doing business amounting to about $100,000 a year, a huge sum in those days, until a devastating fire struck the factory on April 2, 1897. The fire was presumably caused by a spark from the smokestack which ignited the factory, resulting in a complete loss. The ruins of the plant were still smoldering when the stockholders met and ordered the immediate rebuilding. The new plant rose from the debris and was running by June 23, 1897, less than three months after the fire. At that point, Hatteberg and another stockholder were relieved to sell out to Roddis who then changed the name to Roddis Veneer Company. In 1907, the 10-year old plant was destroyed by the second fire to hit the company’s manufacturing facilities, and once again an entirely new plant was built, this time a four story structure. |
